Dressmaker's Pattern Weights
Dressmakers use weights to hold fabric and paper patterns in place whilst marking out and cutting - usually circles of wood or sandbags are used, which are often not heavy enough to stop the fabric slipping and do not always slide easily on the fabric. Our take was of course a solid metal design - made from thick pieces of steel bar these slide easily, and the longer ones can also be used as helpful straight grain guides, or as a rotary cutting edge, which is safer than a ruler. They are very heavy for their size, offering a secure hold on the fabric. We ended up making 3 different sizes, finished with fabric themed scissor handles on the larger designs. Painted with a lovely bright blue powder coat finish, they are bright and visible and will last for years to come!
